Plan 01 · 2 days

Pokémon Pilgrimage

Across four cities, five stores, one obsession.

Last updated 2026-05-27

The complete Kansai Pokémon route — Osaka DX with its café, Nintendo OSAKA, the Kyoto branch, and the one airport store you only see on the way home.

Why this plan exists

Every plan on Beyond Kansai is built around one idea, not a checklist. Some travelers want to see all the famous temples. Other travelers want to find the only permanent Pokémon Café west of Tokyo. The first kind doesn't need this site. The second kind is who I write for.

Pokémon Pilgrimage is the 2 days route I'd hand to someone who already knew what they wanted out of the trip — no padding, no detour to a famous place that has nothing to do with the theme.

Who it's for

You played the games as a kid and the brand still does something to you. You want the merchandise that doesn't make it to Western releases, and you want one good café meal where the food has eyes. This isn't a marathon — it's a focused two-day arc that fits around the rest of your trip.

What's in it

  • Pokémon Center Osaka DX + the only permanent Pokémon Café west of Tokyo
  • Nintendo OSAKA on the same floor pattern (Daimaru Umeda 13F)
  • Pokémon Center Kyoto inside Takashimaya
  • The Osaka-exclusive Maiko Pikachu and Takoyaki Pikachu plushies
  • The KIX airport store on departure day, for last-minute regrets
The day-by-day breakdown — with timings, transit costs, ticket links, and the small rules that decide whether the day works — is the part of this plan still being drafted. Coming in the next update.

Where to start right now

The full day-by-day version of this plan is in production. While you wait for it, you can already do the prep that determines whether the trip works at all — booking the reservations that fill up first, and reading the linked spot pages for the individual stops on the route.

  • Start with the Pokémon Center Osaka DX & Café page — the café booking is the gating factor for this entire route.
  • Open a free account at the official Pokémon Café portal before your booking date.
  • Slots open thirty-one days in advance at 18:00 Japan time. Be on the page early.
